the tips and tricks!

My Story

It’s easy to say that my personal fitness journey began in 2015, the year I got myself a Personal Trainer and started taking my health seriously, however, I have always been interested in fitness in one way or another. As a child I danced Ballet and Highland, as a teen I Figure Skated, and as I moved into my twenties I fell in love with Powerlifting and Boxing. Physical activity is as ingrained into me as brushing my hair in the morning. And that is the purpose of this blog, a space to share my knowledge, my understanding and the tips and tricks I’ve picked up along the way.

Having been involved in the Arts, my passion lies in Performance, whether that is leading a group through exercise or sitting on that solitary bike up the front of the class, I have always enjoyed the rush that comes from being the performer. Personal Training was never the obvious choice for me, but when it was recommended, it seemed as though I had led my life always making decisions that would lead me here without realizing it. It took me less than a day to decide that it would be my next career move, researching different course providers and finally choosing the path that would lead me to where I am now; self-employed, living in lycra and deciding how my days are led. It’s terrifying!

Four years ago I took a job in Starbucks, my caffeine addiction and myself were beyond excited. Eighteen months in, I began my training for Shift Supervisor and it was one hell of a learning curve! I was dealing with various personal issues, trying to learn how to run a busy coffee shop shift and balance everything out. This is where I learnt exercise is my way coping mechanism. Coping with stress, exhaustion and loss was where I found exercise was by far the healthiest way I could. I had already fallen in love with lifting weighs, boxing and cycle classes, but using it as a way to escape was a new realization for me, and it is still my first port of call when things get hard. Sweating out whatever has upset me, whatever has angered me, it is my way of escaping.

Starbucks taught me a lot about life, business, how to marry the two and continue with some kind of dignity and sense of purpose. It brought me into contact with people who I’ve learned so much from, and who continue to inspire and support me and for that I am so grateful. This is a very common theme throughout my life, dance taught me discipline, figure skating taught me team work, responsibility, leadership and motivation, weight lifting taught me my limits and how to tell them to f*ck off. Every team I’ve been a part of has given me essential life skills that I now get to pass on to everybody I meet and train with. Life is a learning curve, and with this blog I want to pass on what I’ve learnt and learn from everyone who reads, so get in touch, I want to get to know you and where possible, lets help each other. People empowering people is the future.
